Duane Ewell & Kathy Bontrager
Assistant District Directors
We would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about Kathy and myself, as we are sure some of you still don’t know us that well. We have been together for 29 years. We have been GWRRA members since 2002 and we have previously held the positions of ACD’s with Chapter H in Goshen, ACD's and CD's with Chapter U in Angola, as well as Former ADD’s for Indiana. Kathy is also the current District Goody Store Coordinator.
Kathy works 2nd shift as a lead inspector (one of those “cushy gravy jobs”) for the Quality Control Department in the lab at Silgan Plastics in Ligonier, In. I work a few hours a week as a semi-retired machinist at Cutting Edge Machine & Tool in New Paris, In.
Kathy has 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren and I have 2 sons and 3 grandchildren including a set of twins. Kathy likes to have fun, talk and spoil Jake, her little Chihuahua mix dog. I may appear to be very serious, but don't let that fool you, I have a warped sense of humor and have been known to pull a joke or two on occasion. Look out, you may be my next victim.
My first Wing was a 1976 GL1000 and we have upgraded 5 times until we purchased the 2005 1800 California Side Car Trike that we currently ride. We have averaged around 15,000 miles a year for the past 5 or 6 years. We have ridden in 47 states and Canada and we keep adding to that number every chance we get. We also pull an Escapade trailer. We like to attend the rallies and we used to camp on some of the trips we make, however, now we camp in motels.
We joined GWRRA to ride and associate with people with the same interests that we have. We have gained so many friends through GWRRA, not only in Indiana, but all over the USA, that it is hard to remember them all. This is the greatest organization of Goldwing riders in the world and hopefully we can contribute to the Indiana District Team with some new ideas and maybe a few new fun activities.
