Henry & Pat Dekock

 Hi
all,
Our
names are Henry and Pat DeKock. Henry lived in a small town just north of
Rensselaer, where we are members of Chapter R-2 (the orange guys!). Henry is a
lifelong Hoosier and Pat is originally from Michigan. We met, believe it or
not, in DeMotte (Pat drove all the way from Potterville, Michigan, just outside
of Lansing). Pat's girlfriend at the time (we're no longer friends - hmmmm)
told her she just HAD to come to DeMotte and meet this guy her husband had been
living with. Well, that was our dear, sweet Henry and the rest is history.
Here we are, in DeMotte, Indiana, married for over 23 years. What a ride it's
been.
Henry
has 3 children, who Pat has not formally adopted, although did so in her heart.
Along with those 3 children (Leslie, Kacy and Tim) came spouses (Scott, Maury
and Jennifer) and 8 grandchildren. Unfortunately we lost one grandson almost
three years ago to a brain tumor and now have seven living grandchildren.
However, Nick continues to live in our hearts.
Henry
drives a truck and hauls propane and Pat is a court reporter for Jasper Circuit
Court in Rensselaer. The only problem with jobs is they tend to interfere with
our riding.
It
seems like we've been riding forever; guess that's not entirely true. When we
met, Henry had a 750cc Honda. One day, when Pat was away, Henry bought our
first Gold Wing, a 1985 "pink" 1200cc, (Henry disagrees that it was "pink").
Then, once again, when Henry was off work and Pat was working hard at the
courthouse, Henry went and found himself a 2001 illusion red 1800cc Gold Wing.
There was only one stipulation -- the bike didn't leave the dealership without
Pat on the back. So, that's how it happened. We are still riding that Wing and
lovin' it.
We
joined GWRRA in January of 2000 to find people to ride with. We took a drive to
Hammond, Indiana to a mall show where we knew Chapter R-2 would be showing off
their bikes. From there, we went to our first meeting and about four months
later, we were offered the position of Rider Education and accepted. Since
then, we have been Couple of Year, Assistant Chapter Directors, Chapter
Directors, and Pat is now Treasurer for the chapter. We are now accepting the
position of Assistant District Directors for the Northwest Section of Indiana
and are very excited to meet even more of our extended family.
We are
now about to begin our journey on the Indiana District Team. We are looking
forward to visiting all of the chapters in our section in the near future.
