Larry & Linda Eckerley
Assistant District Ride Educators

Greetings to all:

We are Larry and Linda Eckerley from Decatur, IN.  We have been GWRRA members since 1997.  My first motorized bike was a bicycle that I put a lawn mower engine on.  My Dad thought motorcycles were too dangerous.  Linda and I rode a Honda CX500 as our first real motorcycle and had a lot of enjoyment on it but sold it when family obligations took a higher priority.  Linda suggested we get a motorcycle again after our children moved out on their own.  Wow! OK!!  We bought a used GL1200 Goldwing, then a 1993 GL1500, and then moved up to a new 2000 white GL1500 with a matching Bushtec trailer.  We have ridden in all 48 states and visited many National parks while camping a lot along the way in a Bunkhouse camper. We hope we can continue to enjoy riding together and with the GWRRA family for many years to come.

We were introduced to GWRRA and Chapter T in Portland a short time after getting our GL1200.  Butch Micheau was the Chapter Director and made us feel very welcome.  We became Assistant Chapter Directors and then Chapter Directors of Chapter T.  We were very lucky to be Chapter Directors of the host chapter for SWWU in 2000 and 2001.  It was an exciting time.  We took a hiatus from leadership positions to care for a family member for a couple of years.  We then returned as Chapter Educators for Chapter G in New Haven, IN and are current Senior Master Tour Riders (numbers 3575 & 3576) in the levels program.  We were honored this year when asked to become Assistant District Educators.  We think rider education is just about the most important task a member of GWRRA can have.  We want to provide assistance in all areas of Rider Education with the goal of making motorcycling safer and more enjoyable.  We look forward to meeting and working with all of you in making the Rider Education program the best it can be.

We have two children and five grandchildren.  Carrie lives in Colorado with our twin grandchildren, Thomas and Rebecca and Justin lives in Fort Wayne with our other three grandchildren, Haley, Shelby, and Leslie.
