Karen
& Lonny Hunter
Karen and I have been married since 1984. We started the marriage with a ready made family that included my four and her two, with the youngest being 6, 4, 2, and 1. Even though we had gotten a new 550 Nighthawk just before the wedding, raising children and the involvement in their activities dominated our lives for the next ten years. Karen has worked for the state for the past 27 years and I have worked the same for the past 20 years. We are both caseworkers in Child Protective Services, working with families where abuse and/or neglect has occurred. It was 1993 before our kids were old enough for us to think about buying a bike to travel on and that led to the purchase of our first Wing, the 82. Traveling on 2-3 week vacations with tent, sleeping bags, and everything else bungeed on made us dream about updating to a trike and having a trailer to pull. That dream came true finally in 2000 with the purchase of a new Lehman trike. The new Bunkhouse was added 2 years later. 2004 saw us ride just less than 15000 miles and camp 30 nights. Belonging to a Chapter where there are other campers has made this adventure all the better. Karen and I were introduced to GWRRA for the first time in 02 and joined in April of that year. We immediately involved ourselves in as many activities as possible. That led to us becoming ACDs starting in 2004, a position that is still held in Chapter E. Karen is also Public Relations Person for the Chapter and has been involved with trying to get Lady Riders SIG up and going. Being Chapter COY during 2004 was comfortable for us since we felt that we were just being asked to continue doing what we would be doing anyway. Participating in District COY selection was viewed the same way. It hasn't been a chore for either of us to try and be a good PR person for GWRRA or to remain enthusiastic about how much anyone can get out of belonging to this group.
