Irv & Kate Swinehart
Kate and I are very honored to have been asked by Lee and Kay to fill the position of Indiana District Treasurer. We are residents of Columbus, having moved here in April of 2006 from New Jersey, and members of Chapter W. I was born in Maine, but spent most of my adolescence living in Ohio and Wisconsin. I received my undergraduate degree from the Wisconsin State University-Whitewater with a major in accounting. I also received a Master’s Degree, while in the service, from the University of Arkansas, with an emphasis on management. After college I work for one year with Bendix Corp in New Jersey, and then joined the Air Force. I spent 10 years in the military, stationed in Georgia, Korea, Germany, and South Carolina. I left the Air Force in 1976 and went to work for the Campbell Soup Company holding various positions in their financial staff. I retired from Campbell’s after 29 years in December 2005. Kate was born and raised in the Indianapolis area and attended Purdue University, graduating with a majoring in Home Economics. After graduating, she held various positions in the Insurance industry while living in Indiana, New York, and New Jersey. While in New Jersey she decided to take courses in computer programming and transition to the computer field while working for the Reliance Insurance Company in Philadelphia, PA. In 1985 she applied for a programming position with Campbell Soup and was hired. Needless to say, we both got more than we expected out of our employment with Campbell’s. We met in December of 1986 and were married in July of 1987. We have no human children but are the parents of a Yorkie and a Shiba Inu. I had ridden motorcycles while stationed in Korea, but never bothered to pursue it after I returned to the states. In 1996 we began riding when we bought a Kawasaki 500. We graduated a year later to a Honda PC, and then in 1998 when looking for luggage for the PC ending up buying a beautiful 1999 white Goldwing SE. Not to be outdone, Kate got her motorcycle license and has owned a Honda Helix, a Suzuki Savage, and a Suzuki Bergman. She finally decided that she enjoyed being a co-rider more than the rider and gave up her rides. In 2008 with 60,000 miles on the clock we decided to graduate the Goldwing to Trike status, and had Grumpy from Chapter A2 install a Champion Trike Kit. We’ve been riding it ever since and just love it. Kate has maintained her motorcycle endorsement and plans on learning to pilot the trike. We look forward to the challenges of the District Treasurer position and providing support to Lee and Kay as well as the entire District Team. Irv & Kate Swinehart |
